Shohrat Zakir
Shohrat is a master dutar player, singer and actor. He is an ambassador for Uyghur culture's music. He has a solo concert in Parramatta Australia in 2018. He is the founder of the Australian Uyghur Muqam Ensemble and the singer of the Shohrat Tursun Trio in Sydney.
Shohrat Tursun is a master student of the University of Education, Fukuoka Japan in singing and a bachelor of acting of the Central Drama Institute, Beijing China. Shohrat performs the folk musics of East Turkistan, while exploring modern elements in the Uyghur 12 Muqams. He is a resident actor at the Australian Fox Studio and appeared in movies and local advertisements.
His music brings a contemporary take on the tradition of the Uyghur Muqams of the ancient times, acting as a national memory bank by working mythologies, historic figures and events into traditional verse form.
Shohrat combines dutar (two-string instrument), tambur and the ancient Silk Road singing skills to transmit the harmony of East Turkistan's Islamic culture through time and space. He has played for audiences and has appeared in concerts in Japan, China, USA and Germany solo and with the Australian Uyghur Muqam Ensemble. He has also recorded and released CDs in Japan and Australia.
